Our First Try Of Children's Week

Every Sunday of every month there is a ministry that will be assigned to take care of the church program. The third week is assigned to the Children's Ministry, from welcoming/ushering the churchgoers, to Bible reading, opening prayer, calling people to share their experiences of God's goodness in their lives and announcing the start of the service.

Also,we gave a short rendition of the song by Steve Kuban - "For The Lord Is My Tower" and showing what we have learned from Lesson 1 about the importance of values.

Every month we will rotate the children in the different duties that they will handle as part of their training and enhancing the talents that God has given them.

Though it is sometimes hard, the sense of fulfillment that one feels can never be taken away, especially if it is done for God's glory. Truly it is a joy to see the young ones listen to God's Word.

Lesson 1 - Values Are Important

Note: The lessons were taken from the Truth and Honesty Teachers Manual of Voice Philippines.

We started the lesson with a game called "Red, White" (Pula, Puti) where the aim is catching the hand of your opponent which is based on the designated color for each partner. The one who scores the first 3 points will win the game. It was really a fun game and to see the children paying attention for the color to be called.

We then started with a definition - "values are a standard of right and wrong, good and bad". We taught them the sign of the hands as this is being said. Also, using the values voice - "I will choose good values for my life". At this point some examples were given so that the child will understand what it means.

The Bible lesson is found in Matthew 7:24-27, we let them read each verse and explained its meaning. It is about the two men who chose where they will build their houses. The wise man built his house upon a rock and the foolish one on the sand which was disastrous when the rain came. For me, it is wise to build your foundation (values) on what the Bible teaches and surely even when the storms of life come you can be rest assured that you can stand firm on God's promises.

Then we gave another set of examples of good and bad to wrap up the lesson. We served snacks and before going home we gave their folders for their attendance. This coming Sunday is more of a review on this lesson.

Getting Started On The Journey To Discovery

We have started the theme for Sunday school for kids at the Lift Jesus Higher Church. Which will be about Truth and Honesty, it will go on until June, and will cover 12 lessons, 1 lesson would comprise 2 weeks.

As, I have said previously, we will be implementing a system, one is in the children's attendance and the classroom reminders. We have shown the children these reminders and what is expected of them, we explained it one by one. About the attendance sheets, they are put in separate folders and were given before the end of the class to ensure that the child have stayed inside and haven't wandered outside of the room. We asked them to cut-out their favorite shapes and glue it to the week that they have attended.

The next one would be the stamps that will give the child a gauge on how he did that week and also a reminder for us teachers when the time for rewards have come. We will put a mark on the day also that the child has attended for easy viewing. The attendance sheet is seen on the left side of the long folder. The right side is where the colored paper is put to use as cut-out and where they will put their classroom activities.

I am really excited and so are the rest of the teachers. This journey of discovery isn't just for the children but for us as well.

God bless and keep up the good work for God's glory.

Children's Registration Day!

Last January 6 we had our Registration Day for the children attending Sunday school. The teachers assisted on filling-up the forms for the necessary informations needed. Also, each one of us introduced ourselves, so that the kids will know something about their teachers. There are a lot of activities to be done for the whole of 2008 and we are excited to make it happen.

There are many things to implement, one is the attendance of the children and how it would be more encouraging for them to attend regularly. We will have separate folders for each child, where they can decorate with their own artistic styles (I will show pictures of the folders when they are finished). In the process they can also see their attendance and progress. Another is having rules and regulations for them to follow inside the classroom.

For now that is what we will be doing, plus the introduction of the lesson theme that will run until June, the theme is about truth and honesty.

I would like to take this opportunity in thanking the people who help in making this possible. Their support and time is much appreciated.

The Start Of A New Year!

Here are a few excerpts that were done last December 23, 2007 when we celebrated our Christmas party. The Children's Ministry prepared a presentation that showcased the young ones talents in both singing and dancing.

We would like to enhance our talents and abilities for God's glory and not to waste it away, and in the process never seeing God's purpose in our lives. Through practice and hard work we want to give God the best in everything that we do.

It was really a fun time seeing the children perform and at the same time a bonding moment to everyone that attended in celebrating a most joyous occasion.

This 2008 has a lot in store and that as a church we welcome the challenges we are about to face knowing that God is here and that God is good.

Happy New Year and God bless!
